Conjugate roots without real coefficients

You apply the conjugate root theorem out of habit.

If a polynomial has **real** coefficients and $z$ is a root, so is $\bar{z}$; with complex coefficients the theorem does not apply. Separately: $1/z = \bar{z}$ only when $|z| = 1$.

Next time: Say "the coefficients are real" before invoking it.
