You multiply to rotate, without fixing which way.
Multiplying by $e^{i\theta}$ rotates $\theta$ anticlockwise and leaves the modulus unchanged; clockwise needs a negative exponent. If the modulus changes, your factor was $re^{i\theta}$ and the $r$ must be stated.
