NSW HSC · Physics
See where your marks go, and win them back.
Write your answers on paper, the way the exam wants them. Every part comes back marked, criterion by criterion.
Calculations, explanations, graphs and the long answers: which marks you banked, which one slipped, and on which line.
A bar magnet is pushed into a coil connected to a galvanometer, held still inside it, then pulled out. Explain the galvanometer reading in each stage.
- Moving in: the flux through the coil increases, so an emf is induced✓ 1
- Changing flux, induced emf
- Held still: the magnet is inside, so the needle stays deflected0 / 1
- Marker: No change in flux means no emf: the reading falls back to zero.
- Pulled out: the flux decreases, so the current reverses (Lenz)✓ 1
- Opposite change, opposite deflection
